Project

Wohnverhältnisse is a multi-part artistic project by Lun Kacirek and collaborators. The focus is on a constantly growing collection of videos in which various people talk about their relationship to their living environment.
Lun's artistic approach combines narrative, organizational, research and activist working methods and likes to use the possibilities and issues of audiovisual media.

In the work phases, which were characterized by collaboration with local groups and activists, a number of other works and formats were created to accompany the exhibition of the videos.

Some of the individual works are presented in more detail here.

#1 Wohnvideos

Accompanied by a team of young filmmakers, different local residents produce a video in which they discuss their relationship to their own living environment. All videos are based on the same questionnaires and make parallels and differences visible. The working method emphasizes the self-determination of the participants and also makes use of the possibilities of cell phone filming. The constantly growing video series is shown in a video exhibition or projected directly onto a house wall in an open-air screening.

#2 Wohnaktionen

To accompany the exhibition 2024 in Hildesheim (GE), housing activist Swen Huchatz and Lun Kacirek have curated a supporting program with a focus on the topic of homelessness: from networking meetings to a public discussion event on Ottoplatz and a public lecture, to a closing event with creative and encouraging activities for a wide age range.

In addition to the program items, an information window on the topic of “self-organization of homeless people” was created in the shop window as well as a mini-zine, various banners and other material, with the aim of firmly anchoring the topic of homelessness in the city through long-term available resources.

#3 Wohnbereich

A room in the Hildesheim gallery Kunstraum 53 has been converted into a heated place to stay during the exhibition, with free coffee and tea and comfortable sofas. In cooperation with a bookshop, an information store and a shared library, the space offered a wealth of material on the topic: from leaflets to children's books. A place to read, chill out, have a rest and get into conversation.

#4 Wohnkarte

Visitors were able to mark personal experiences, observations and especially negative experiences and violence in public spaces on a map of the district on the wall, using sticky dots and pieces of paper. The aim was to gain insights and exchange ideas about different experiences in urban spaces.

#5 Wohnkämpfe

The research collage series deals with current grassroots struggles for housing justice in other European countries.
The focus is particularly on the organizational methods and the complex local situation from which they arise. In this way, the collages communicate across contextual, legislative and linguistic differences. New developments are constantly noted during the exhibition with sticky notes.

#6 Wohnkameras

Wohnkameras is a video installation about the history of video surveillance in public spaces in Hildesheim and Europe, its impact on urban space and current developments such as the use of AI and the EURODAC reform.

The installation integrates various live video sources and thus creates itself in real time.
